The 4 Best Chipping Wedges

We have selected some of the best chipping wedges for you to improve your short game. Let’s explore and find one for you.

1. Square Strike Wedge -Pitching & Chipping Wedge

The Square Strike Wedge is a chipping and pitching wedge that has a stainless steel shaft. It is a legal-for-tournament-play wedge that comes with a one year warranty from the manufacturer.

Wedges for chipping

It has an extra-wide sole and beveled leading edge that prevents digging, allowing for reduced wasted strokes like chip shots.

The putter-like length of 35.5 inches and putter-like lie angle of 68 degrees with anti-rotational weighting make it easy to swing and control. No need to open your stance, just use a straight-back-straight-through putter-like stroke for control and accuracy.

The shorter length makes it easy to control without gripping down. It has a precise center of gravity (CG) and high moment of inertia (MOI). Anti-rotational weighting allows for extra weight to move to the toe that keeps the club square instead of rotating through impact.

This is an excellent wedge for chipping, which is more effective than using your 8 or 9 iron. The 45 degree loft option is exclusively designed for chip shots and will improve your score considerably.

2. Wilson Harmonized Golf Wedge

Wilson Golf has designed, manufactured and distributed premium and recreational golf equipment throughout the world for over a 100 years now. Their line of Harmonized clubs is one of the most famous in all of golf.

The Harmonized golf wedge is shafted with True Temper steel irons for high performance and reliability. The sole grind is designed to promote accuracy by opening the club face further to hit higher shots that maintain target and improve performance.

It has a spin-optimizing groove design and modified bounce angle for control and a fast stop spin that offers versatility from a range of lies. This is a very effective, accurate and forgiving wedge that allows for easy chipping around the greens at a very reasonable price.

3. Cleveland Golf Men’s Smart Sole 3 Wedge C

The Smart Sole 3 Wedge C is available in graphite and steel shaft materials with a 42 degree loft that allows for easy chipping.

Built for maximum forgiveness, It comes with a Three-Tiered Sole design with three distinct activation pads that allow for more efficient turf interaction. This results in cleaner, crisper contact and increased playability from all lies around the green.

Feel Balancing Technology redistributes weight from the hosel toward the toe, moving the CG closer to the center of the clubface. This results in improved feel and tighter shot dispersion to get you closer to the hole.

The 42 degrees of loft, a shorter club length, and a more upright lie angle optimizes the club’s specifications to promote proper chipping mechanics in an ideal chipping setup.

The Smart Sole 3 will simplify your short game and lower your scores because it is a wedge optimized for chipping.

4. Cleveland Golf CBX 2 Wedge

Another option from Cleveland Golf, the CBX 2 Wedge is available in graphite and steel shafts.

It provides tour level spin and control to help players improve their short game. It has a light hosel, a tapered flange, a wide toe, and the new Hollow-Cavity design that moves the CO, placing it right where you hit the ball. This allows for straighter shots that go farther and feel better.

The fourth generation Rotex Face technology delivers Cleveland Golf’s sharpest Tour Zip Grooves and most aggressive facemilling for greater spin and short game control. The enhanced Feel Balance Technology along with Gelback TPU Insert reduces vibration for a pure feel at impact.

The Dynamic Sole offers three different sole grinds for versatility between lofts.  V-shaped sole (46-52) for mud, S-shaped sole (54-56) for sand or deep rough and C-shaped sole (58-60) for lob shots.

The best lofts available on these wedges for chip shots are the V-shaped soles, lofted between 46-52 degrees. These would be considered gap wedges, but they should give the proper mix of spin and roll.

This cavity back wedge allows incredible short game forgiveness and the low loft options are great for chipping around the green.

How to Chip Better

The low-point

Many golfers tilt away from the target thinking it will help the ball up. This is not the best idea, it moves the low point of your swing behind the ball which is the major cause of chunks. The best strike comes from getting the low point of the downswing to be at the ball or slightly in front of it so you hit the ball first, then brush the turf.

Set up your shoulders

Play the ball center, and move your weight forward so your left shoulder is over your left foot. Grip with your right hand, keeping your right arm straight with your right shoulder high. Measure the distance to the ball with your right arm. Now, bring in the left hand and level the shoulders while keeping your body slightly left, not tilted left, and maintain the right shoulder level.

Swing

The longer right arm and high right shoulder have set your distance to the ball. For backswing, fold the right arm and hinge the left wrist. Do not let the right shoulder move up, let it turn a little to the inside. On the downswing, let your right arm unfold and keep the elbow tucked close to your side. Do not let the right shoulder go below starting point and keep a little bend in your right wrist.
