It has been a while since Ping did a forged wedge, so I didn’t know what to expect of it.
But I must admit the first look of the Ping Glide Forged Wedge was stunning with some useful technical enhancements.
Although Ping wedges have not been my favorite in the past, I love what they have done with this one. It has hit all the right boxes for me: the performance, the feel, and even the look.
Also, I always felt that Ping wedges lacked a bit of softness, but they have got that figured out in this one, with just the right balance I prefer in my wedges.
For those who practice regularly, probably need to switch to a new wedge every other season. They can use this because it goes well with the long irons.
So let’s cut to the chase and see why this is such a great club to own.
Ping Glide Forged Wedge Review
With wedges, my recommendation is always to use something that gives you confidence. Because how well a club eventually depends on you. So, it’s still wiser to use something that you’re confident with.
Therefore, this one grabbed my attention there because although it’s for the better players, it’s equally forgiving. That is something that even the better players can use.
Even Ping’s Product Development Manager had stated that this is a shot-maker’s wedge.
Precisely so, because this is a whole different shaft than any of their previous ones. For one thing, this one is forged, which they haven’t tried in a while.
What makes this shaft excellent for shots is its versatility. The head is not only smaller but also rounder to assist better players in going for the shots. Further, there is a higher spin at the impact that golfers will love to control and explore.
Although this has the classic blade-style feel, it also has all its features forged to perfection. The technical features were instilled by forming it to end.
Ping was specifically eyeing for that precision with this.
Features of the Ping Glide Forged Wedges
Finally, all its features come down to how well it can hit and how well it feels. To put it, the feeling you get on impact is reliable and assuring. It feels softer than the other wedges.
There wasn’t much difficulty with the head size being smaller as the performance was still excellent. The narrower sole also helps to hit lofts with added spin control. Something golfers will like exploiting.
What shot-makers will like is the higher spin on the low fading shots because of the newly designed grooves. The friction you get on the grooves on impact is gripping and fantastic.
But new wedges always give that sort of a feeling so whether it lasts is yet to be seen.
The only weakness, if you could call it that, is the price. It’s expensive for a wedge. But apart from that, there aren’t many negatives on this.
Tungsten Toe Weight
The weight is about 13g, brings more consistency and stability to the head. You can see it as the slightly different shaded area on the toe section.
It brings the center of gravity away from the heel section, adding a more consistent weight all around. This makes shot-making more forgiving, and you can get more confidence because of it.
This helps handicappers on mishits by balancing the weight throughout the head.
Design
As we have said before, this was forged to perfection. The look is just stunningly sleek, and every detail was well thought out.
Their precision-milled wheel-cut grooves are not only for the looks but give you higher spinning control. The slots are tighter and more compact.
The thing with golfers is that they have that specific feel on the wedges that they have gotten used to, for them, they have the advantage because of the feel and the touch, all tick the boxes.
Rounder Head
The leading edge on this is rounder and softer. The sole is something between a standard sole and a thinner sole.
So to me, it sits a lot tighter to the ground so you can really get underneath the ball and hit it quickly. So it’s a very confidence-inspiring club.
Tour-inspired Shape
The shape of the head is fascinating. The back is very detailed, but it doesn’t make much of difference in performance but has a vast bag appeal. Looks great when it lies there with the other clubs.
Then there is the neck, which is a long tapered hosel inspired by the eye two. This helps to transit smoothly through grass or sand.
Also, the face is flat to go with the rounded leading edge to give a consistent ball speed and accuracy as well.
Customizable
To make your club even fancier, you can add graphics designs on it. You can select from a total of four beautiful artistic flairs, only available on Ping.
You also get to stamp up to three letters and colors on the heel, toe, and center.
But if you don’t like a massive design on your shaft, you can keep the classic design.
Selectable Lofts
The wedge is available in lofts from 50 to 60 degrees. You can choose from two degrees apart, like 54 or 56. But the sole is still the same.
This is why this forged wedge is for better players. It just gives you so many options to choose from.
Pros
- Great feel and performance
- Soft and round head for higher spin control

- Six ranges of lofts
Cons
